Due to its hard coating whole flaxseed may pass through your intestine undigested, which means you won't get all the health benefits. That's why we grind them before mixing the dough (we left a few whole seeds for decoration). The Omega-3 oils in flax seeds are heat resistant when they are part of a combined matrix like the bread dough.  This matrix, formed by the ground flax seed and other dough components, provides the protection needed to withstand heat and baking. In addition, the temperature inside the dough while baking is relatively low.

Flaxseed's health benefits come from the fact that it's high in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids, as well as phytochemicals called lignans. One tablespoon (7 grams, the amount in 2 slices) of ground flaxseed contains 2 grams of polyunsaturated fatty acids (includes the omega 3s), 2 grams of dietary fiber and 37 calories. 

The combination of the ground flaxseed and the ground psyllium husk makes this bread an excellent choice to improve digestive health or relieve constipation. Flaxseed may also help lower total blood cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or "bad") cholesterol levels, which may help reduce the risk of heart disease.
